This is in beloved memory of one of the greatest cats to ever live.

He was my angel and my prince. Most importantly, he was my child.

I will always love you and I will always remember you. You were one of the best things that ever happened to me.

You were such a good boy. You never bit or hissed. You were always so quiet, so mello. You hardly ever furballed. One of my fondest memories I can remember is of you singing in the empty bathtub to the spiders.

I will miss you chasing my shoelaces and cuddling in bed.

Be at peace. You are with Matilda and your other siblings. You are with your mother and you are with Phyllis. The pain is gone and you should rest in peace, Pharaoh. Fly upon the wind with Angel's wings, my darling.

I'm Sorry

01.17.06 (4:19 pm)   [edit]

"It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans." -Mayor Ray Nagin, New Orleans

I'm Sorry, Dr. King. I'm so SO sorry. It seems we haven't come far enough. Words can't express how I regret that we still could not have made your Dream a reality; even after all this time. One would think that we would have made great progress by 2006. Unfortunately, we haven't come too far at all. Some day, the good among us will work together to end what brings all of us down. Until then, we must always keep you and your dream alive. God Bless! (In case no one knows what I'm talking about, read the opinion below)

 Racism Mars Dr. King's Day

Well, Dr. King is rolling over in his grave the day after the 2006 national day of recognition of his birthday. Here is what we saw with this day in review. We heard from New Orleans’ incompetent mayor telling the world that New Orleans should be a “chocolate” city. He also informed us that it is the will of God that it should be that way. Nagin said that New Orleans would not be the same if it were not an African-American city. We also heard from Sen. Hilleary Rodham Clinton. She was speaking to an almost all black audience at a church in New York where she compared the United States House of Representatives to a plantation. She said, and I quote, (The House) "has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about. It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard." In other words, the review of MLK Day was one of racism. This man, this former minister, worked most of his life to end racism and elevate the status of black Americans. And what does his legacy get in return? He gets a black American mayor calling for an all chocolate New Orleans and a Democratic senator calling the U.S. House of Representatives an old white, slaveowner-run plantation. She implies that the Democrats in the House are just like blacks were treated under slavery. Someone should be incensed at that comparison. What if a white mayor of a city like West Palm Beach had said that it should remain a white bread city after a hurricane? What would the outcry had been if some white senator had compared the Democratic abuse of Judge Alito to a lynching? We know what would have happened. Ray Nagin should quit right now as mayor of New Orleans and Sen. Clinton should be removed and forced to resign. If America is truly balanced, these two racists should no longer hold political office. Neither is any better than David Duke in their racism. I think Martin Luther King Jr would be ashamed for comments like these to be made on a day honoring his legacy to America. Johnny Franks seechatt@yahoo.com * * * I wonder why "black America" is not up in arms about the latest racist statements by a government official. Could it be because it is coming from a black mayor? New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's comments on Dr. Martin Luther King's day is as racist as it gets, yet the media is only barely touching this separatist statement. According to CNN, Nagin said, "It´s time for us to rebuild New Orleans - the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. This city will be a majority African American city. It´s the way God wants it to be. You can´t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn´t be New Orleans." Aside from his poor grammar, he also proves to be a bigoted illiterate. Then he goes on to say, "I don't care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day," Uptown is a reference to a mostly white part of the city. Imagine if then Mayor Rudy Gulliani had said something along those lines after 9-11. Mayor Ray Nagin's comments were nothing short of being racist and it's a crying shame that he disrespected Dr. Martin Luther King's dream of a "nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" while we take the day off in honor of him and all he stood for. The greatest threat to the end of racism isn't members of white supremacist organizations. They are at least visible enemies. It's people such as Mayor Ray Nagin and Louis Farrakhan. They both say they want an end to racism, but on this day, a day we remember how far we've come as a nation, they both stood there to remind us how far we haven't came. Nagin and Farrakhan are simply two people that need to keep black people down, in order to prod themselves up. Wake up, black America. I truly hope that he is not re-elected. If he is, it speaks volume about the real racism problem in America. It's not the KKK. We can see them and we know they are scum. It's the whiners who want to blame all of their problems on somebody else and hide behind the race card. I also feel our mayor should denounce New Orleans' mayor as the racist he has proven himself to be. Why aren't other mayors - black, white and all others - speaking out? Racism is not just a white on black problem. Thank you, Ray Nagin, for making that clear to the whole world to see. Mayor Littlefield, please take a stand against racism and start the mayoral campaign to have Nagin removed from office. You could be the first mayor to speak out and officially denounce Nagin and call for his resignation, mayor to mayor.

Back in the US of A . . .

01.07.06 (6:26 pm)   [edit]
So I'm back. Mexico was amazing! I just came back on Monday and started winter session classes on Tuesday.

I'll be sharing the picture highlights as soon as I can upload and format them for the blog.

Ixtapa was my favourite stop. It was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen.

The people of Mexico were incredibly nice and very helpful when we got lost (which happened a couple times).

Plus, the shopping was awesome! I love chatchkies! Pesos are apx 10.5 to the US dollar currently so I loaded up on some great stuff. Plus, in Acopulco and PV they had WALMARTS! One liter of Evian water at WALMART cost $1.32 US.

Not to mention, the booze was great. I found pomagranite taquila. Oh, and Cuban cigars are legal in Mexico. Just don't bring them back to the states
The best smokes I found were chocolate flavored tabacco cigars. I stocked up. Hey, duty free, baby!

I wish I could go back and I was sorry to see such an incredible vacation end. It definately gave me good recharge.

Here's to a much needed vacation and I can't wait to go back.

Stay tuned for photos! :D
